Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar dedicates his Bharat Gaurav Award to the Indian Armed forces
Maverick filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, who is known for showcasing real life issues through his films, has been awarded with the Bharat Gaurav Award by the NRI community of America. The event was organised by Sanskriti Yuva Sansthan, an NGO working with the objective of promoting Indian culture, and was held on June 9 at the United Nations Hall in New York.
Madhur Bhandarkar was honoured with the Padma Shri award by the President of India last year along with Priyanka Chopra and Ajay Devgn. He has also been a recipient of National Awards on more than one occasion for his hard hitting real films.
This year the event is being held in New York and along with Madhur Bhandarkar, spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Late Kalpana Chawla and few other prominent personalities from other walks of life received this prestigious award.
Bhandarkar dedicated his award to Indian armed forces and termed them as the real pride of India. He also touched upon the topic that Indian army is facing aggression in Kashmir by the separatists and yet they selflessly protect 1.25 billion people of India. The whole UN hall erupted with applause after hearing from him.
Commenting on the award, Madhur Bhandarkar said, “I am overwhelmed to receive such love and appreciation by my people and today’s global citizens. I would however like to dedicate this award to our armed forces who battle multiple forces to keep us safe at the cost of their own lives.
Bhandarkar Is currently working on Indu Sarkar, which is a movie based on a 21-month long period of Emergency from 1975 to 1977, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally had declared a state of emergency across the country. Indu Sarkar features Kirti Kulhari, popular Bengali actor Tota Roy Chowdhury, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Anupam Kher in prominent roles. The first poster of the movie had recently been unveiled and it has caught the audience’s imagination.
